Justin Cooke the ridgeway
The book Justin Cooke The Ridgeway was published in 2007. It represents a body of work which takes its inspiration from an area known as the South Dorset Ridgeway. Not only is this a landscape steeped in history, it is also an area which has been familiar to the artist since childhood. Attracted partly by the visible history of the landscape, whether it might be from the Bronze Age barrows or the recent marks of modern farming; Justin has produced a collection of paintings which explore this landscape on many levels. For some it is the history, for others it is the atmosphere or the play of light and for others still it is a personal intangible thing, all about a sense of place and how they fit within it.
“It really is a remarkable landscape and it has been a challenging but immensely rewarding journey to produce this book and the paintings that feature in it.”
